After I planned Dale & Melissa's going away party, they hijacked their own party and told everyone it was now my birthday party. It started out with dinner at Red Robin's and yes, I stood up on the bench and danced for my dessert while the staff sang to me! Then we went bowling and then watched a movie! It was a great night!

FEARLESS HERO

My good friend and singer-songwriter, Melissa Mulder-Albertson, is the lead singer of a band called Even Keel. If you have not already noticed, they frequent my blog - haha! Melissa was representing Team Georgia during our (Vancouver's) 2010 Olympics. Nodar Kumaritashvili tragically lost his life on a practice run just hours before the Opening Ceremonies. Nodar was supposed to carry the Georgian flag.

As placard bearer for Georgia, Melissa was extremely affected by this tragic loss and decided to dedicate one of her songs to the fallen athlete. FEARLESS HERO (written 2 years ago) was dedicated to Nodar, and played by (herself and) Even Keel during the Olympics. The concert, attended by CTV media, was played as a triute to Nodar. As a good friend of Melissa, I too, share this vision!

FEARLESS HERO is now available for download on iTunes and cdbaby. Net proceeds will be going to Nodar's family and to building a luge track in his home town!

Nodar, his family, the Georgian athletes, and the country of Georgia, will forever remain in our hearts, our thoughts, and our prayers! (Nodar Kumaritashvili - November 25, 1988 to February 12, 2010)

I went downtown Vancouver to do some more 2010 pre-Olympic shooting. My friend, Dan and I walked and walked and walked around Vancouver for about 6 1/2 hours, stopping lots to take photos. I was so sore by the end if it too. I am not used to walking so much on pavement. I think we covered about 12 kms.

Our Photo Chicks group got together once again. We had two bride and groom couples, and a bride on her own because her husband had to work. Because she was solo, I put a few more up of her. The weather was fabulous, although we were hoping for a bit of rain and mud. This has been such an unusual winter, as we had weather in the mid teens. I was down to shooting in a tank top. Ah, a glimpse of summer!

Vancouver 2010 Olympic Shoot #1

With just under two weeks to go before the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, Michelle and I went out galavanting around Vancouver to do some pre-olympic shooting. Last fall, I had the chance to photograph the rigging of the olympic banners on the Hudson's Bay Company building downtown, and last night, I got a finished night-time shot! It rained all evening, but not too hard. These photos are all SOC (straight out of camera).

Welcome family, friends, and blog visitors! It has been one heck of a year and I have so many people to thank for helping me get this far! My good friend, and fellow photographer, Anita, did my card last year as well as this year, and she did a fabulous job as always! Last year I was barefoot in the rain, but this year was a little too cold for bare feet. I honestly would have done it, but the -10 degrees celcius weather and bitter wind, caused my brain to forget about the bare-feet-cool-factor.

My friend, Krista, and her sisters came into my studio a couple of weeks ago to get some photos done as a Christmas gift to their parents. I only did a couple of sessions for Christmas because I recently had laser eye surgery and did not know how quickly my eyes would heal. Even Keel played this gig on Hallowe'en. The band, their friends, and the staff at Go Go Beans, dressed up in costumes and had a superb time. The place was packed an hour before they went on - they were even out the door. EK blew the roof off GGB - great job guys!

2010 Olympic Rigging of Banners on the HBC building downtown Vancouver

I had an amazing opportunity to photograph the rigging of the 2010 Olympic banners on the Hudson's Bay Company, downtown Vancouver. From down on the street below, to exclusive rooftop access (which was very tricky to get to), I had a great time! These guys worked so hard, starting in the wee early hours of the morning, and working almost around the clock, to get everything ready for the Grand Opening! I am so blessed and excited to be a part of our city getting ready for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics that will be held in 4 months.

There are 4 segments of each vertical banner - each of which took about 45 minutes to lower and tie into place.

The wedding season is winding down now, and it's my second to last wedding of the season. Dan and Christine had amazing weather for their wedding, but a big cloud moved overhead just as we were finishing up their formals. This was an awesome wedding to shoot alongside Anita. The whole day was perfect. The only delay was the ceremony, as the Abbotsford Air show was running late. The Pastor was on the phone with the guys in the tower on the Abby airgrounds, as the Snowbirds were flying over. We waited the 25 minutes until the show was over because they were so loud flying overhead. What a beautiful day though!

I asked the guys to get crazy and play - and they did!

I did this amazing wedding yesterday with Jamie Delaine. It was a brilliant day in Chilliwack, although it was extremely hot. A brilliant day and an even more brilliant wedding. Alanna and Stanley are such a wonderful couple who met 9 years ago on her first day of university (she bought his used textbook). They had water bottles with their names on it, as well as pink hand-held fans (which we ALL used). They even had flip flops for dancing! This wedding was also the same day as Jamie's 19th birthday! I had such a fun shoot with Elizabeth, and the long, dry, itchy grass and the stinging nettle made it...well, interesting. On the upside, we have had such good weather, and the lighting is so sweet as the sun is setting. Elizabeth is in my brother's band, ABEL, and is my make-up artist. She will be teaching a make-up application course soon - I will post information on my blog when I get all the deets!

Since Elizabeth is a singer/songwriter, I told her to use the dandilion as a microphone and to use it without reservation. You gotta have a little crazy fun during the shoot too :)

This year, I decided to hire an accountant. My cousin-in-law, Amber, sent me an email saying that she, and two of her friends, were starting their own business. So, now, I have my own accounting team. They are 3ML (3 Moms with Laptops) Accounting and Office Support. They did such a great job on my income taxes, and for every referral, I get a $10.00 gift card for Starbucks. I've snagged myself $80.00 worth of gift cards so far! I had the pleasure of doing their photo shoot, as they needed some new photos for their business. Thanks guys, you rock my tax world - lol!

Photo Chicks - session 1

Some photographer friends and I decided to start a photography group. A group to have fun, do on-location shoots, studio shoots, share ideas, help each other with photo editing, etc. I had my make-up and hair done, and got all dressed up funky-like and posed as the model for our first GTG (get together). Anita posed as a model near the end of our shoot to give me a bit of a break and shoot as well. Here is the photo I took of her, and here is one that someone else took of me.

Trash the Dress - Melissa & Tyrel

I did another TTD shoot with Anita, and we had Melissa and Tyrel - it was like they were just married and we were shooting their formals. They, like Kristie, got pretty cold, and although it was a few degrees warmer for them. But when you are out in the snow with bare arms, it's all the same. Love their dedication to the shoot!

I love this shot. I had Anita do my shoot here, but it was fall. I had photos in this exact spot, and it sure looks different. I love how the same location can look amazing no matter the season!

Trash the Dress - Kristie

Today, I did a 'Trash the Dress' session with Anita, and had such a blast shooting her friend, Kristie. It was quite chilly out and Kristie was such a great sport. Am looking forward to doing more 'Trash the Dress' shoots in the future!

Reifel Bird Sanctuary

This afternoon, my sister, Mer, and I spent a few hours down at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary. With binoculars and cameras, we scouted out just under half of the 850 acres of protected wildlife, wetlands, and marshes. Over 280 species of birds can be found here on Westham Island (Delta, BC), from Snow Geese, to Owls, to Great Blue Herons, to Black-Capped Chickadees. I would have loved to post more photos, but I chose a few of my faves.

You can buy bags of birdseed for .50 cents. Look at them go crazy - you would think they were starving...

...and so did I. Their little feet tickled as they landed. It took me a couple attempts to get this shot as I was also behind the camera.

Moments of Truth & Thankfulness...

Three weeks ago, I went for surgery to get my tonsils out. Being in my mid 30's, the recovery time was almost 3 weeks. The first week, I stayed in bed, ate nothing more than ice chips, popsicles, and jello, and watched the 1st 3 seasons of Prison Break. I was off the morphine after 5 or 6 days because it made me quite itchy. It also made me think I called Anita 5 or 6 times, when in fact, I only called her twice (we checked the call history on our phones). I don't know why they would prescribe 75 pills of morphine when I barely used 1/4 of them, other than to get more money. Rob the sick and give to the government? Don't I pay them enough in taxes???

Week two: While everyone was out trick-or-treating with their kids or at costume parties, I was in bed, exhausted, and still on popsicles and ice chips. Instead of parties, I had a good friend come over and watch a movie with me. She even took an interest in looking down my throat. Most people would shy away from that, but she is in med school, hence the interest :)
I started on soups at the beginning of that week and slowly started introducing solids. By the end of that week, I was eating most things. Only sad part about it, is that I was gaining the 10 pounds back that I lost - lol.

Week 3, as I mentioned farther down in my posts, I started my own 'back to work' program of assisting a couple photo shoots, being in a photo shoot, and watching Andy and Jack for a day.

I do have to mention that Andy (4 years old), and I had a little discussion about Hallowe'en as I was finishing up making dinner for them. We talked about what costumes he and his brother wore, how the night went, etc. Then he asked me what I was. I told him that since I had my tonsils out, I was sick in bed, and just watched a movie. He paused and pondered for a moment and then asked, "So you were Sleeping Beauty?" In that very instant, any doubt of my ever being a good parent was erased. It's not to say that I won't ever have doubts again, but moments like this, make everything worth it, and tell me I am definitely on the right track. Andy and Jack are amazing kids, and have a never-ending supply of kisses, hugs, and snuggles for their Auntie Eileen.

Over the past 3 weeks of my recovery, I must send out a bunch of thank-you's. Thanks to my sisters, Sheila and Mer, for visiting me and helping me. Thanks to Jacquie for great conversation and flowers. Thanks to Ebony for keeping me company on Hallowe'en, and giving me an awesome foot massage. Thanks to Christine who came over for a visit and brought food I could not eat (just kidding, I know you wanted more than popsicles for dinner), and did my dishes. Thanks, Dan, for helping take me out of the house for the 1st time and for helping me with information for my website (which is under construction). Thanks Jamie, for meeting me for coffee when I was able to drink it, and for our awesome 'photography' chats. And last, but definitely not least, thanks to Anita, who helped me with my 'back to work' program, for my photo shoot, photoshop help, and always providing a place for me to stay, and wanting me to - even when I was living out of my car. (Okay, the 'living out of my car' was part of a dream, but she said she would never let that happen, and would always have a place for me to stay - how sweet!)

I actually have one more thank-you. Thanks to my niece, Makenna, who coloured me a fall picture that included my tonsils!

This weekend I started feeling better. And what better way to start my 'back to work' program than with a little 'gettin out of the house' and working with friends. I spent a couple of days in Abbotsford at my friend, Anita's, with her and her family. On Sunday, I assisted her with two family photo shoots. She even did my photo shoot in between them. Check out my photo shoot on her blog.

On Monday, I watched her boys as she edited a few of her many shoots and weddings she has pending. She is excellent with deadlines too, so I was happy to help out. Yes, even the daily activities of life get me a little more tired than usual, but I guess that is to be expected during recovery.

It's now nearing midnight as we sit beside each other blogging. Guess I am spending the night again (beats the hour drive home in the middle of the night). Thanks Anita for providing me with a place to stay when we have our 'late nights' editing and blogging. You are an amazing friend and am so blessed to know you. Love you babe!

A day in the rain...

Two weeks ago, I got my tonsils out. And yes, there is quite the recovery when you have surgery in your mid 30's. I have been off work for 2 weeks and have only just begun to make my way out of the house. My sister and nieces came over for a visit today and we went for a walk around the block. Sadly, I did not have enough energy to bring my camera of choice, so I grabbed my PAS (point and shoot) and took a few snaps on our walk. A few more days of recovery and I should be back into the reality of my everyday hectic, but wonderful life!

This was an amazing fall wedding. I love fall. If for nothing else, all the different colours of the changing leaves. I did this wedding with Anita, and we had so much fun together. The wedding party was a blast to hang out with.

Today Jamie and I got up incredibly early (4am) to catch the first ferry to the Sunshine Coast. With a stop at Starbucks and Tim Hortons, we downed coffee to keep us awake. Although it rained everywhere else, God had a little clearing for us in Sechelt.
Paula and Nathan were fun and relaxed throughout the day, just having fun. Their speeches were touching and humorous, and even though we did not know them, we felt the emotion! Enjoy each other!

Makenna

Mark and Marlene's wedding day back in March was a cold cold day. It was near freezing and it also rained during the formals. Makenna was not too thrilled with the weather and did not co-operate for Anita (the photographer). So, before she grew out of her dress, I had her out at the park today. She barely co-operated for the first few 'posed' shots, but I managed to get a few good ones. She started fussing, so we took her to the park. We found Julian and her daughter, Sefia playing. They are our neighbours and there is only a week's different in age between Makenna and Sefia. I got some photos of the two of them playing together as well!

Princeton, BC

Well, I had a week of vacation, and I went to Princeton with mom, dad, Sheila, and her two girls. I did not take as many photos as I normally do, but still, most of them were of my niece. A nice break from work and over 40 degrees in the sun! My sister and I took off to Keremeos for a morning, and met up with the rest of the fam at Bromely Rock for lunch and the afternoon! Can't wait to go back! The only down-side were the mosquito bites we ended up getting - thank God the baby didn't get bitten!

We stopped at the Hope Slide for a little break - it's a long ride for the little ones. We called it 'The Broken Mountain'!

I had something rattling around in my trunk, and since I had bikes on the back of my car, I had to crawl into the trunk from the other side. My sister took photos of me being stuck.

I had a big family photo shoot today. It was fun, but we sure had a lot of people in my studio! Here are a few of the kids. My niece, Makenna missed out on this shoot (not so keen on the studio), but Mia just loves being in front of the camera, so I posted two of her!
